On the one hand, they promote the idea of the "God-chosen" nature of the "Russian" people, asserting that all other nations are secondary—mere "fertilizer" meant to enrich the soil of the great "Russian" empire.
On the other hand, many so-called red-brown ideologists, now commonly labeled "Z-patriots," insist that the Russian Federation itself is under the occupation of external forces.
Interestingly, the identity of these alleged occupiers varies depending on individual education levels, personal biases, and conspiratorial inclinations:
- Some blame systemic liberals, accusing them of collusion with corrupt officials in power.
- Others point to the "Jewish oligarchy," claiming it operates under the directives of a Secret World Government.
- A third group combines both narratives, adding elements of even more absurd conspiracy theories.
The Absurdity of Territorial Conquests
The greatest contradiction lies in their view of territorial conquests.
"Russians" describe the capture—or, more accurately, the complete destruction—of yet another Ukrainian village as the "liberation" of Russia and its historical territories. This claim becomes particularly absurd when juxtaposed with their own assertions that Russia itself is under external control.
If the country is allegedly under the sway of foreign forces, how can the idea of "liberating" Russia by seizing the territories of a sovereign, independent state be justified?
Here, logic completely breaks down.
Divine Justification for Crimes
Unsurprisingly, this farcical narrative wouldn’t be complete without references to divine intervention in the fate of the "Russian" people.
"Russians" frequently—and often unprompted—declare with utter seriousness: "God is with us!"
In their version, God not only acknowledges these contradictions but actively endorses murder, rape, looting, theft, internal repression, and external wars. It seems the "Russian" God is a peculiar one, condoning anything so long as it aligns with the ambitions of their "great Russian mission."
The Root of Ideological Chaos
This ideological chaos reflects the lack of a unified worldview or strategy among modern Russian radicals. Their rhetoric is built on contradictions, convenient for manipulating the masses but fundamentally undermining their ideological platform.
Throughout their history, "Russians" have strived to restore a "great empire" that never truly existed, while simultaneously acknowledging that this empire has long lost its relevance and sovereignty. They oppress and destroy other nations while searching for scapegoats for their own misfortunes among external enemies and internal minorities.
The Core Problem
It becomes evident that the foundation of these ideologies lies not in the desire to create a coherent alternative but in the need to justify their own impotence and inability to take constructive action. As long as these contradictions remain unresolved, the madness will only deepen.
Modern Russia’s ideological chaos is largely due to the absence of a genuine, original ideology. Apart from Bolshevism-Communism—which is itself a secularized version of the "Third Rome" ideology—all other ideas that form the basis of the "autocratic" Russian statehood have been borrowed from elsewhere. These borrowed concepts were not creatively reworked or adapted, leading to an ideological mishmash—a chaotic blend of fragments of foreign ideas.
The Dead Weight of the Past
Take, for example, the so-called grand idea of "Moscow as the Third Rome." It is presented as a unique achievement of "Russian" thought, but historians know it was copied almost verbatim from a Bulgarian original by Greek monks serving the interests of the Venetian Republic. Venice viewed Moscow as a mercenary capable of challenging the Ottomans in Constantinople.
Instead of evolving and adapting, the idea of the "Third Rome" has remained conceptually stagnant for 500 years. It has accumulated the worst elements of other toxic ideologies, such as radical fascism and communism.
Modern Russian ideology is a toxic landfill—a swamp of archaic myths, imperialist ambitions, religious dogmas, and the most absurd conspiracy theories.
The Russian elite, incapable of creating something original, clings to everything from the past, refusing to rethink or modernize. Instead of shedding the "suitcases without handles" of their history, they drag this ideological clutter into the present, branding it as "ancient tradition."
A Tragic Downfall
This lack of creativity and refusal to adapt makes the ideology unwieldy, dragging the state down. Modern Russia is sinking in a toxic swamp of lost meanings. Rather than building something new, the Kremlin repeatedly returns to the decayed remnants of the past.
Without creative rethinking and shedding unnecessary baggage, it is impossible to build an ideological platform capable of meeting contemporary challenges. Instead, we see a chaotic collection of symbols, slogans, and superstitions devoid of any real meaning.
This ideological chaos is a direct result of the Russian elite’s inability to engage in self-analysis and reform. As long as Russia clings to the fragments of its past, it will remain stuck.
This is the tragedy: instead of rising, Russia continues to sink deeper into the swamps of its historical mistakes, dragging others—Ukraine, Belarus, Georgia, and other former colonies of the Moscow Empire—into the quagmire.
