Candles for the Poor, Billions for the Chosen

In the photo — a stage set for the dull and limited “Russian” public: candles, church décor, “spirituality.” Everyone sees a deeply religious chekist. And no one even suspects that in his mind there is no space for mysticism — only cold calculation.

Putin knows perfectly well he is not building any “Third Rome,” nor pumping the mythical “Russian world” through the pipes. All of it is a convenient backdrop for the masses, who must believe in the sacredness of the tsar and the Great Mission of Russia.

What no one realizes is that the true foundation of Russia is a tectonic slab of trillions looted by the chekists, hidden in offshore accounts, trusts, and real estate scattered across the globe.

These capitals are the only real axis around which his empire turns. The candles he lights are not about the soul — they are about the immortality of human stupidity guarding and multiplying his assets.

The irony is brutal: his heirs will not inherit a useless, exhausted Russia but a chain of trusts, Vatican accounts, London mansions, and Dubai villas.

And the “Russians”? They will, as always, receive that very same “spirituality” — and dreams of a better life, though only in the afterlife. Isn’t that their true desire? To find joy and happiness after death?

As Dostoevsky once wrote, “Man grows used to everything, the scoundrel.” The regime counts on this truth: that its people will accept hunger, fear, and humiliation so long as they are promised eternity in exchange.

The Russian Orthodox Church offers salvation through faith. The Kremlin offers salvation through obedience. The first seeks souls. The second seeks submission. Both thrive on belief — but only one of them has pipelines of gold flowing invisibly beneath the altar.
